Ingredients
Scale
Sauce
- ¼ cup low-sodium soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- â…“ cup beef broth
- 2 tablespoons honey
- 2 tablespoons hoisin sauce
- 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- ½ tablespoon grated ginger
- â…› teaspoon cracked red pepper flakes
Noodles
- 2 (3 ounce) packages ramen noodles, seasoning packets discarded
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
Stir Fry
- 2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil, divided
- 1 pound sirloin steak, trimmed of fat and sliced into 1 ½-inch strips (about ¼-inch thickness)
- ½ teaspoon kosher salt
- ½ teaspoon ground black pepper
- 3 cups fresh broccoli florets
- ½ cup water
- Sesame seeds, for garnish
Instructions
- Make the Sauce: In a medium bowl, whisk together the soy sauce and cornstarch until smooth and lump-free. Add the beef broth, honey, hoisin sauce, rice vinegar, sesame oil, minced garlic, grated ginger, and cracked red pepper flakes. Whisk thoroughly to combine all ingredients well. Set the sauce mixture aside.
- Cook Ramen Noodles: Bring a medium pot of water to a boil. Add the ramen noodles and cook until just tender, about 2 to 3 minutes. Drain the noodles and rinse under cold water to halt the cooking process. Drizzle the noodles with 1 teaspoon of sesame oil to prevent sticking and toss gently.
- Cook Steak: Heat 1 tablespoon of extra-virgin olive oil in a large nonstick skillet over medium-high heat until shimmering. Season the sirloin strips with kosher salt and black pepper. Add the steak to the skillet in a single layer and cook without stirring for about 3 minutes to achieve a good sear. Then stir and continue cooking for another 2 minutes until the steak is cooked through. Remove the steak from the skillet and drain any excess grease from the pan.
- Steam Broccoli: Add the remaining 1 tablespoon of olive oil to the same skillet. Add the broccoli florets and pour in ½ cup of water. Cover the skillet to steam the broccoli for about 2 minutes until the florets are bright green and fork-tender but still crisp. Remove the lid carefully to avoid steam burns.
- Combine and Serve: Return the cooked steak to the skillet along with the prepared ramen noodles. Stir the sauce again, then pour it over the contents in the skillet. Using tongs, toss everything together as the sauce thickens and coats the noodles, beef, and broccoli evenly. Cook for an additional 1 to 2 minutes to heat through before removing from heat. Serve immediately, garnished with a sprinkle of sesame seeds for added flavor and texture.
Notes
- Discard the seasoning packets from the ramen noodles as they contain high sodium and artificial flavors, which are unnecessary with the homemade sauce.
- To prevent overcooking the broccoli, steam just until bright green and fork tender for optimal texture and nutrient retention.
- You can substitute sirloin steak with flank steak or ribeye if preferred, just adjust cooking time accordingly.
- For a spicier version, increase the amount of cracked red pepper flakes or add a dash of chili garlic sauce to the sauce mixture.
- Serve this dish immediately after cooking to enjoy the best texture and flavor.
