Description

Easter Egg Rice Krispie Treats are a fun and festive dessert perfect for spring celebrations. These colorful, candy-filled treats combine crispy Rice Krispies cereal with melted marshmallows and butter, formed into adorable egg shapes using molds. With optional pastel food coloring and candy-coated chocolates for a surprise center, these no-bake treats are easy to make and delight both kids and adults alike.

Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 6 cups Rice Krispies cereal
  • 10 ounces mini marshmallows
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Optional Ingredients

  • Food coloring, pastel colors (optional)
  • 1 cup candy-coated chocolates such as mini M&M’s

Tools

  • Plastic egg molds lightly greased or silicone egg molds

Instructions

  1. Melt Butter and Marshmallows: In a large pot, melt the butter over low heat. Add the mini marshmallows and stir continuously until fully melted and smooth.
  2. Add Vanilla Extract: Remove the pot from heat and stir in the vanilla extract gently to combine.
  3. Color the Mixture (Optional): If using multiple colors, divide the melted marshmallow mixture evenly into separate bowls and add a few drops of food coloring to each. Stir well to achieve pastel shades.
  4. Mix in Cereal: Immediately stir 2 cups of Rice Krispies cereal into each colored marshmallow bowl, or all 6 cups into one bowl if not coloring. Mix until the cereal is completely coated.
  5. Prepare Molds and Hands: Lightly grease your hands as well as the inside of the plastic or silicone egg molds to prevent sticking.
  6. Shape the Eggs: Press a spoonful of the cereal mixture firmly into each half of the egg molds, making a hollow center.
  7. Add Candy Center: Place a few candy-coated chocolates inside the hollow space of each mold half.
  8. Seal and Form Eggs: Press additional cereal mixture on top of the candies and firmly close the mold halves together to shape the egg.
  9. Set and Remove: Let the formed eggs sit for 10 to 15 minutes to set, then carefully remove them from the molds.
  10. Cool Before Serving: Allow the eggs to cool and fully set before serving or storing.

Notes

  • For easier shaping, lightly grease your hands with butter or cooking spray.
  • Swap candy-coated chocolates with mini marshmallows or colorful sprinkles for variety.
  • These treats can be prepared ahead of time and stored in an airtight container for up to three days.
