Ingredients
Scale
Patties
- 1 pound lean ground beef
- 1/3 cup bread crumbs
- 2 teaspoons ketchup
- 1 teaspoon mustard
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
Gravy
- 2 packets Brown Gravy Mix (approximately 1 oz each)
- 2 cups hot water
- 1 teaspoon ketchup
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tablespoon avocado oil (for cooking)
Instructions
- Prepare Patties: In a large bowl, combine 1 pound lean ground beef, 1/3 cup bread crumbs, 2 teaspoons ketchup, 1 teaspoon mustard, 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce, 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder, and 1/2 teaspoon onion powder using clean hands. Mix thoroughly until all ingredients are well incorporated. Divide the mixture into four equal portions and flatten each portion into a patty shape.
- Cook Patties: Heat 1 tablespoon of avocado oil in a skillet over medium heat. Place the patties in the skillet and cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until browned and cooked through. Adjust the heat as needed to prevent burning. Once cooked, remove the patties from the skillet and set aside.
- Make Gravy: In a bowl, whisk together 2 packets of brown gravy mix, 2 cups of hot water, 1 teaspoon ketchup, and 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce until fully combined.
- Combine and Simmer: Pour the prepared gravy mixture into the same skillet used for cooking the patties, incorporating any remaining meat juices in the pan. Bring the gravy to a gentle simmer over low heat. Return the Salisbury steak patties to the skillet, spooning gravy over them to coat evenly. Stir gently and let simmer for 3-5 minutes until the gravy thickens slightly. If the gravy becomes too thick, add an additional 1/4 cup of hot water and stir to achieve desired consistency.
- Serve: Serve the Salisbury steaks hot, spooning extra gravy over each patty. Pair with mashed potatoes or steamed vegetables for a classic comforting meal.
Notes
- Use lean ground beef to reduce excess fat and create a healthier dish.
- Adjust the seasoning in the patties to your taste by adding more garlic or onion powder if desired.
- For a gluten-free version, substitute the bread crumbs with gluten-free alternatives.
- If you prefer thicker gravy, reduce the hot water slightly or simmer longer for the desired consistency.
- Leftover Salisbury steak can be refrigerated for up to 3 days and reheated gently in a skillet or microwave.
