Ingredients
Scale
Dry Ingredients
- 1 cup rolled oats
- 1/2 cup chocolate protein powder
- 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
Wet Ingredients
- 1/4 cup almond butter or peanut butter
- 1/4 cup honey or maple syrup
- 1/4 cup unsweetened applesauce
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Add-ins
- 2 tablespoons mini dark chocolate chips
- 2 tablespoons rainbow sprinkles (optional)
Instructions
- Combine Dry Ingredients. In a large bowl, mix the rolled oats, chocolate protein powder, unsweetened cocoa powder, and salt until evenly combined.
- Mix Wet Ingredients. In a separate bowl, whisk together the almond butter, honey (or maple syrup), unsweetened applesauce, and vanilla extract until smooth and well incorporated.
- Combine Wet and Dry. Pour the wet ingredients mixture into the dry ingredient bowl. Stir well until everything is fully combined and the mixture starts to bind together.
- Add Chocolate Chips and Sprinkles. Gently fold in the mini dark chocolate chips and, if desired, the rainbow sprinkles to add texture and a fun pop of color.
- Form Bites. Using your hands or a small cookie scoop, shape the mixture into bite-sized balls about 1 inch in diameter.
- Chill to Set. Place the protein bites on a parchment-lined tray and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to firm up and hold their shape.
- Store Properly. Keep the bites in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to one week or freeze them to extend shelf life for longer storage.
Notes
- These protein bites are naturally sweetened and make an excellent pre- or post-workout snack.
- You can substitute almond butter with peanut butter or sunflower seed butter to change up the flavor.
- For a gluten-free version, ensure rolled oats are certified gluten-free.
- Adjust sweetness by varying the amount of honey or maple syrup according to your taste.
- Use dark chocolate chips to keep added sugar minimal and enhance antioxidants.
