Ingredients
Scale
Pie Crust
- 1 pre-made pie crust (or homemade, if preferred)
Chocolate Layer
- 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 1/2 cup chopped pecans (or walnuts)
Pie Filling
- 1 cup light corn syrup
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 3 large eggs
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/4 tsp salt
Instructions
- Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) to ensure it reaches the right temperature by the time your pie is ready to bake.
- Prepare the Pie Crust: Place the pie crust into a 9-inch pie dish, pressing it down gently to fit and form a base for your filling.
- Melt the Chocolate: In a small bowl, melt the semi-sweet chocolate chips in the microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring in between each interval until the chocolate is completely smooth. Then spread a thin layer of this melted chocolate on the bottom of the pie crust.
- Add the Pecans: Evenly sprinkle the chopped pecans (or walnuts) over the melted chocolate layer, creating a crunchy and nutty base for the pie filling.
- Make the Filling: In a separate mixing bowl, whisk together the light corn syrup, granulated sugar, melted butter, eggs, vanilla extract, and salt until the mixture is smooth and well combined.
- Assemble the Pie: Pour the filling mixture carefully over the chocolate and pecans in the pie crust, distributing it evenly.
- Bake the Pie: Bake the pie in the preheated oven for 45 to 50 minutes or until the center is set and the top is golden brown. If you notice the crust edges start to brown too quickly, cover them with foil or a pie shield to prevent burning.
- Cool and Serve: Allow the pie to cool completely on a wire rack before slicing and serving to let the filling set properly.
Notes
- If you prefer, you can use a homemade pie crust for a fresher taste.
- Substitute walnuts for pecans if desired.
- Use a pie shield or foil to protect the crust edges from burning during baking.
- For a richer chocolate flavor, use high-quality semi-sweet chocolate chips.
- Make sure the pie cools completely for clean slices and better texture.
