Ingredients
Scale
Ribs and Seasoning
- 3 pounds beef short ribs
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
Barbecue Sauce Mixture
- 1 cup barbecue sauce
- 1/2 cup beef broth
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon chili powder (optional)
- 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
Garnish
- Fresh parsley, chopped
Instructions
- Season the Ribs: Thoroughly season the beef short ribs with salt, black pepper, smoked paprika, garlic powder, and onion powder to evenly coat all sides with the spices.
- Arrange in Slow Cooker: Place the seasoned ribs in a single layer inside your slow cooker to ensure even cooking.
- Prepare the Sauce: In a small bowl, mix together the barbecue sauce, beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, and optional chili powder and cayenne pepper, stirring until well combined.
- Add Sauce to Ribs: Pour the prepared sauce over the ribs, making sure they are well coated and submerged in the sauce as much as possible.
- Slow Cook: Cover the slow cooker and cook the ribs on low for 6 to 7 hours or on high for 3 to 4 hours, until the ribs are tender and easily pull apart.
- Optional Oven Finish: For a caramelized finish, preheat your oven to 400°F. Transfer the ribs to a foil-lined baking sheet, brush with additional barbecue sauce, and bake for 10 to 15 minutes until slightly charred and caramelized on top.
- Garnish and Serve: Sprinkle chopped fresh parsley over the ribs and serve hot with extra barbecue sauce on the side for dipping.
Notes
- For deeper flavor, marinate the ribs in the seasoning and barbecue sauce mixture overnight before slow cooking.
- Pair these ribs with classic sides like coleslaw, cornbread, or roasted vegetables for a satisfying meal.
- Leftovers can be refrigerated for up to 3 days; reheat gently to preserve tenderness.
